Burns can be extremely costly in the food service industry. On average, it costs $1500-$1700 per occurrence; this accounts for cost of treatment, Workers’ Compensation and lost time. There are many ways employees can get burned in a foodservice environment. Burns can result from contact with hot surfaces such as grills, ovens, burners, fryers and heating equipment. Burns can also be caused by escaping steam or by hot food or drinks that are splattered, splashed or spilled.
